Wet weather conditions contribute to weekend collisions

Drivers are advised to practice exercise extreme caution when driving in rainy conditions.

Rainy weather may have played a role in a number of collisions in the area over the weekend.

According to Jan-Henk van Vuuren of Magenta Medical Services, emergency services responded to at least ten vehicle collisions in and around Newcastle between Friday, October 21 and Sunday, October 23.

On Friday, two truck accidents were reported on the Amajuba Pass.

A pedestrian was hit by a motor vehicle on Victoria Road, and a bakkie overturned on the N11 near the Mittal Bridge.

On Saturday, another truck accident was reported, followed by a vehicle smashing into a tree on Albert Wessels Drive.

“Another accident involving two vehicles on Albert Wessels Drive, and another accident involving three vehicles at Keyway were also attended to,” he said.

A fifth accident near the Keyway intersection was also reported on early Saturday evening.

“Drivers should exercise extreme caution when driving in rainy conditions,” Van Vuuren concluded.
