KZN dam levels remain stable ahead of expected summer rains

Water levels in KwaZulu-Natal have remained stable ahead of the expected summer rainfall in the coming months, at 84.7% this week, down from 85.0% the previous week.

Although levels have decreased slightly this week, they remain above average, with the Umgeni Water Supply System recording 94.2%, down from 94.7%.

Midmar Dam is at 91.6% from 91.9%, Nagle and Albert-Falls Dams stand at 85.3% and 93.1% respectively.

Hazelmere Dam is below average at 48.2% from last week’s 48.6%.

On the Tugela River, Woodstock Dam is unchanged at 85.0% and Spioenkop Dam is sitting at 100% from 100.4%.

Craigie Burn Dam has been reduced from 100.8% to 98.9%, and Ntshingwayo Dam on the Ngagane River has been reduced from 70.3% to 69.6%.

Klipfontein Dam has also recorded a decrease, dropping from 95.6% to 93.9%, while Bivane Dam has not changed and remains at 97.3%.

The Department of Water and Sanitation has urged consumers to use water sparingly.

“Refrain from vandalizing water infrastructure, and repair and report water leaks to local authorities, while continuing to collaborate with the provincial and local governments to ensure water security in the province.”
