Muslim community commemorates prophet’s birthday with spiritual walk

On the night preceding the procession, members of the Muslim community gathered at the mosque to talk about Prophet Muhammad’s life, listen to lectures on Islam and remind each other of how good the prophet was.

Green… The colour associated with paradise in the Islamic faith and believed, by Muslims, to be the favourite colour of the holy prophet, Muhammad… dominated the procession which made its way through Lennoxton on Sunday morning, October 9.

Vehicles that formed part of the procession were decorated with green tinsel and participants waved green flags in celebration of Prophet Muhammad’s birthday.

According to mufti (a Muslim priest of the highest order), Shamsul Haque Misbahi, even the dome of the shrine where Prophet Muhammad is buried in the city of Medina, is green.

The Islamic organisation that hosted the event, Alhamdulillah Jamia Imam Ahmad Raza Ahsanul Barakaat, described its fifth annual ‘Juloos e Milad’ (spiritual walk in the honour of Prophet Muhammad) as a great success.

“A much larger number of people participated this year compared to the previous years,” said Mufti Misbahi. “When we commemorate the holy Prophet Muhammad’s birthday, we hope to bring about positive change to the lives of people by inspiring the next generation to be righteous, truthful and responsible.”

“By learning about the life of the prophet, we learn how to lead our lives truthfully, how to overcome our difficulties and triumph over our hardships to become successful,” Misbahi explained.
