DA Councillor accused of being unfit for her position

In a voice note being circulated on social media, Hariram can be heard furiously lashing out at residents who voted in the Ward 3 committee elections, expressing her distaste at the fact that the ‘Indian community chose to vote a black woman onto the committee.’

DA councillor, Connie Hariram, has been called a racist by residents in her own ward, according to community activist, Neil Sooknanan.

This after a voice note was uploaded to social media where she allegedly decries people at a Ward Committee meeting for voting for a ‘black woman instead of for Indian people’.

“Good evening everybody. Today was the worst day for me. My election was not as stressful as what I’ve been through today. I am so disappointed that I can cry…,” the voice note begins.

It continues, “I’m very disappointed in our people. Thandeka’s name was not there but I saw people from this group that were voting for her and she had her hand raised and everybody else raised their hands for her.”

The woman Hariram refers to in her voice note is Thandeka Reed, a resident of ward 3 who also stood as a candidate for the Abantu Batho Congress party in the local government elections, which took place on November 1, 2021.

Hariram had arrived to the meeting carrying a list of 10 candidates who she preferred for the ward committee but a municipal official at the meeting rejected the list.
