Employees want no bail for alleged murderers

The protesters were concerned that if the accused were granted bail, they would cause more harm.

Around 40 disgruntled employees gathered outside the Newcastle Magistrates Court last week, to protest against the granting of bail for two suspects accused of torturing and murdering a factory owner on Albert Wessels Drive last month.

One of the protesters, Pam Zwane stated the employees were there to support the family, who had been left traumatised by the attack. Zwane said the protesters were concerned that if the accused were granted bail, they would cause more harm to others.

These men are dangerous… We are very concerned that if they are released from prison, they will harm us and even the remaining victims of the attack.”

Zwane also stated that as a result of the crime, nearly 200 factory employees were out of work as the factory was being closed down.

A recap of what transpired on August 6:

Sun Kaihua (52) was stabbed to death after four suspects attempted to rob his business that evening.

According to an official source, the suspects tied up three victims before allegedly torturing them for money. The victims were reportedly stabbed several times.

One of the victims managed to press the panic button, alerting armed response teams who gave chase after the suspects.

One suspect was shot and another one was apprehended while still hiding inside the factory” said the source.

Two of the victims were found in critical condition and were transported to hospital for further treatment. Sadly, Kaihu succumbed to his injuries.
