Are SPCA ‘fakes’ behind pet confiscations?

The organisation's Heather Gero says these welfare groups are acting illegally in town.

A group of people, said to be posing as members of the Newcastle SPCA, have been illegally operating in town.

According to the SPCA’s Treasurer and Inspector, Heather Gero, the group of impersonators has gone as far as to forcefully remove pets from residents’ homes.

Pet owners are coming into the SPCA office and complaining about us, yet we are not the ones who took the animal!” she exclaimed.

Gero stated that no one – not even the SPCA or the Newcastle Municipality – had the authority to remove animals from a property without the owner’s consent or without first obtaining a warrant.
