No shutdowns expected in Newcastle

SAPS, the Newcastle CPF, the Crime Fighter Task Team and private security firms will remain on high alert.

The Newcastle Community Policing Forum (CPF) has stated that the planned national shutdown on August 24 will have no effect on Newcastle.

The CPF said in a statement today (August 23) that no credible information had been received about a march or protest within Newcastle’s boundaries. However, SAPS, the Newcastle CPF, the Crime Fighter Task Team and private security firms will stay on high alert and patrol the town to monitor the situation.

Newcastle SAPS is prepared to deal with any illegal measures that may be conducted, if an illegal strike occurs,” said CPF representatives.

The CPF also emphasised that if officials obtain credible information, it would be shared with the community if necessary. In such an instance, the CPF has asked the community to be its eyes and ears.

Contact the Newcastle Station CPF Chairman, Ismaeel Dhalech on 072 136 7677 or the Deputy Chairman, Aasif Cassim on 065 879 2316 if you have any credible information about the mobilisation of people.
