Old cables cause building fire due to load-shedding?

Yusuf also claims there is a fire escape in the building and according to him, residents used it as an escape route when the building was engulfed by flames.

Response to previous article about Victoria Street fire…
According to landlord Yusuf Kadar, the cause of the fire in Victoria Street was due to load-shedding that burned out five cables that go to the meter box and provide electricity to the entire building.
“This building went up in 1889 and the cables were not designed for load-shedding. Hence they burned out and caused the fire,” said Yusuf.
He added that the new cables were thicker and bigger in size than the original cables in this ‘ancient’ building.
“The building still had the original cables that were installed back in 1889.
“Although new cables were installed over the years, the old ones were never replaced,” explained Yusuf.
Yusuf also questions the shop owners’ version of the story after they said that some residents were having a braai early on the Monday morning of the fire.
“How could they have been having a braai at dawn?
“I questioned all my residents and they all denied any of them having a braai that morning.”
Yusuf also claims there is a fire escape in the building and according to him, residents used it as an escape route when the building was engulfed by flames.
