Mayor gives farewell presents to boxers

'Sibongile boxing family' coach Nathi Hlatshwayo and boxer Phiwokuhle 'Ben10' Mnguni (20) from Sibongile will be representing SA at the Commonwealth Games.

Umzinyathi Mayor Petros Ngubane recently congratulated the boxers who will be representing the South African team at the Commonwealth Games in England.
Mayor Ngubane visited the team in Johannesburg to give them farewell gifts that included R5000 for each Umzinyathi team member and R1000 to each boxer from outside KwaZulu-Natal.
‘Sibongile boxing family’ coach Nathi Hlatshwayo and boxer Phiwokuhle ‘Ben10’ Mnguni (20) from Sibongile will be representing SA at the Commonwealth Games.
“This will prove and teach the youth that your background should not determine where you go in life.
“You can be whatever you want to be,” said the mayor.
He added that the boxers should remain cautious at all times because envious people could ‘spike’ their drinks and they will end up getting kicked out of the tournament. “You should be careful of what you eat as well. Since you are travelling with a food expert and chef, make sure you only eat food served by him and no one else,” cautioned the mayor.
He wished them well on their journey ahead.
Coach Hlatshwayo thanked Umzinyathi Municipality for their continued support, saying, “We did not expect this and we are very grateful.
“Umzinyathi District Municipality has been with us all the way.” He added that they are also grateful to Sikhumbuzo Mlambo, who is in charge of sports in Umzinyathi, for always providing transport throughout their previous matches.
Coach Hlatshwayo recently competed in boxing matches in Istanbul, Turkey, and has been in the local team in Zone 4, Mozambique.
