Moths lay wreaths to honour fallen soldiers

Those who sacrificed their lives during all wars were remembered at the Moth Memorial Service that was held.

Members of the Memorable Order of Tin Hats (Moths) from the district and beyond gathered at the War Memorial Cenotaph on Sunday.
Those who sacrificed their lives during all wars were remembered at the Moth Memorial Service that was held.
Wreaths were laid by representatives from the armed forces, SAPS, local civic organisations, and descendants of the men and women listed on the memorial.
Regiments from different Moth Shellholes in KZN and the Free State were also present.
Paul Garner started the service with a Scripture reading and prayer, before Bev Garner read a poem along with Pam McFadden.
“The statue bearing all the names of those who lost their lives was erected in 1922 and the enactment was started in 1948 in different areas such as Dundee, Glencoe, Dannhauser and Nquthu,” said local historian and author Pat Rundgren.
He continued by saying that every year in July, Dundee hosts this event in remembrance of the men and women of the town and district who served their country and never returned.
