Armed robbers target retail stores

This is the second armed robbery since Friday

Another retail store was robbed yesterday (July 19).

According to police, two men entered a clothing store in Harding Street during the afternoon.

One of the men was armed with a pistol.

“Staff were threatened with a firearm and instructed to go at the back of the premises. The suspects took cell phones and fled on foot. No one was injured during the incident. Police are investigating a case of business robbery,” said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan.

This armed robbery follows on the heels of another at a retail store just up the road.

Police are on the hunt for five men who were involved in an armed robbery at a business in Victoria Street on Friday (July 15).

According to police, five robbers barged into the store at about 16:45.

Witness statements indicate that at least one of the men was armed with a pistol.

“The staff were instructed to go to the back of the premises and the suspects demanded that a cash register be opened. The suspects made off with an undisclosed amount of cash, as well as cellphones. No one was injured during the incident,” commented police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan.

A case of business robbery is being investigated by Estcourt police.
