Deputy Minister of Transport loses six family members in road accident

The family has asked for privacy during this trying time

Deputy Minister of Transport Ms Sindisiwe Lydia Chikunga was in Ladysmith today (July 19) to identify the remains of her son, daughter-in-law and four grandchildren who died in a horrific car crash on Sunday (July 17).

Chikunga was accompanied to Ladysmith by Minister of Transport Mr Fikile April Mbalula.

The crash took place on the N11 just after the Modelkloof turn-off on Sunday afternoon. All six occupants in the car were pronounced dead at the scene. 

The deputy minister visited the scene of the crash shortly after identifying the bodies of the deceased at the Ladysmith state mortuary.

The minister also visited the scene of the horrific accident and held a press conference later in the day.
