‘Celebrating Madiba Day’ by Halalisani Shoba

It is so disturbing that in our country we have thousands if not millions of graduates sitting at home while their qualification papers continue to collect dust.

Halalisani Shoba

I spent my 67 minutes writing this article. As we celebrate Nelson Mandela month, legacy, it is only fair that I saw this quotation fitting to celebrate his legacy, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. We need change in South Africa, that is the fact. We have the most powerful weapon now, so why is it difficult to change South Africa. Why our parliament is still occupied by ‘pensioners’? Who will bring change if high positions in the country are held by people with no stable education background that is said to be a weapon for change? In South Africa, thousands are graduating yearly yet few get a chance to exercise their minds and to put their skills into practice.

I strongly believe that education is still the key to success, especially since our country is in a state of collapsing. We need educated people who will influence important decision making, not some individuals who will continue to think with their stomachs because of greediness. I don’t care how experienced you are but if you lack education and discipline you are a waste, hence its said “education is the key”.

It is so disturbing that in our country we have thousands if not millions of graduates sitting at home while their qualification papers continue to collect dust. Something must be done, AS SOON AS POSSIBLE by the youth of South Africa to change this situation, since it is now clear that we are on our own. No qualification is ‘just a paper’! while people with no qualifications are driving this country straight to some dark, deep hole.

I don’t like how graduates and students are so relaxed and accepting to this whole devastating situation. We have a huge problem in hand, why can’t we unite and come up with the solution because there is a solution to this problem after all. We cannot continue to sit and fold our arms while we are subjected to ‘brutality’, that there are certain jobs one doesn’t qualify for when they over the age of 35, while we have ‘pensioners’ who are still occupying positions and earning millions? Who is fooling who here? I think it is time we take matters into our hands and solve the problem gradually.
