Unwelcome sight at cemetery entrance

Heaps of waste greets those visiting the Bank Road cemetery

An ‘absolutely disgusting’ sight greets those who visit the cemetery in Bank Road.

This is according to local resident Adri Alborough after she accompanied a friend who wanted to visit a family grave.

Heaps of rubbish that include household, garden and building refuse are strewn at the entrance to the cemetery.

“It is disgraceful and disgusting that people would dump rubbish anywhere, especially on a road leading to a cemetery. There are people coming from other towns to attend funerals and they have to see this,” Mrs Alborough remarked.

Another area of concern that she pointed out was the Garden of Remembrance at the end of Alexandra Street.

Suggestions that could help curb illegal dumping, according to Mrs Alborough, include the municipality providing more waste skips in strategic spots.

“In Forderville, the waste skip is so far in from the road that people are dumping in front of it. You have to walk over the rubbish to get to the skip. It should be placed closer to the road so that it is easily accessible,” she said.
