Local table tennis stars shine bright on international stage

The Uthukela Table Tennis Federation is pleading for sponsorships to help the young players achieve greatness

Two local table tennis stars, Palesa Motshoelibe and Samkelo Hlongwane, will be representing South Africa in the Commonwealth Games and ITTF African Youth, Junior & Cadet Championships respectively.

Hlongwane will be taking part and hoping to do well in the ITTF African Youth, Junior & Cadet Championships in Tunisia from July 20 to 27.

Motshoelibe, on the other hand, will be representing the country in the Commonwealth Games to be held in Birmingham in the United Kingdom.

Uthukela Table Tennis Federation president Thomas Cebekhulu commented that they are ecstatic to see the progress made by their players.

Cebekhulu added that they are doing well as the federation, although there are some challenges they are faced with. “We don’t have enough equipment. In some cases, you will find that the players have to share one table, which becomes difficult. Hence we are calling upon businesses, government departments and municipalities to help us nurture the talent we see in these kids,” he said.
