Another postponement in Shepstone Place fraud case

The matter will now be heard in August

Shepstone Place Home for the Aged management, board members and residents will have to wait a month more to hear the outcome of the fraud case against former administrator Debbie Potgieter.

The criminal case, which has been in the Estcourt Regional Court, has been postponed several times since June last year.

As previously reported by current Home administrator,  the case was due back in court on June 30 where a decision would be taken about where the case would be handled.

It was said that the prosecution thought the case “was too big” to be heard in Estcourt had sent the files to the Commercial Crime Court in Durban to be reviewed.

However, on Monday, Mrs Vaughan said that the case will now be back in the Estcourt Regional Court on August 12 where a trial date will be given.

Debbie Potgieter stands accused of defrauding the home for the frail and aged during her tenure of ten years at Shepstone Place.

The civil case was concluded in April 2021 when Mrs Potgieter paid R500,000 to the Home.
