Non-compliant businesses closed in Utrecht

Expired consumables were confiscated and traders were warned about further contravening the regulations.

The Emadlangeni Local Municipality’s Local Economic Development (LED) Unit, in collaboration with the KwaZulu-Natal Liquor Board, visited businesses in the liquor, retail and trade sectors recently.

The purpose of the visit was to inspect whether Utrecht businesses were fully compliant with the business unit’s regulations. Two businesses were found to be non-compliant and were forced to close.

Emadlangeni’s Head of Communications, Ayanda Mabaso stated that consumables that had reached their expiry dates were confiscated and traders were warned of the consequences, if these contraventions continued.

The visits were fruitful and the municipality has agreed to repeat them on a regular basis, in order to enforce compliance,” added Mabaso.
