Angry protesters block Helpmekaar Road

The road has been blocked with rocks and broken bottles

Helpmekaar Road in the St Chad’s area has been closed by angry protesters since last night (July 12). As of this morning (July 13), the road is still blocked with rocks and broken bottles.

It is alleged that St Chad’s residents had a power cut yesterday morning that continued throughout the night, leading to anger and taking to the streets to demonstrate their dissatisfaction.

Ward Cllr Xaba was on-site this morning. He stated that the problem is under investigation and they are working on restoring electricity to the area ASAP.

Public Safety officers were also at the scene to monitor the situation.

A clean-up of the road will be done hopefully by the end of the day.
