Police warn of investment scam

The SAPS advises people to rather visit the branch themselves and enquire about investment plans, rather than depositing money into people's personal accounts if they suspect any fraudulent dealings.

Dundee police say there is an ongoing scam currently doing the rounds and people must beware.
Three cases of fraud have been opened at Greytown police station against a man who pretends to be a consultant for Old Mutual.

This con-man has swindled a total of R247,000 from his victims.

According to the SAPS, the suspect offers people investment plans from Old Mutual and promises big returns.

The first case was opened back in February when the victim invested R50,000.
The second case was in March, when someone invested double that amount (R100,000). The most recent scam victim invested R97,000.

In the wake of these incidents, police warn people not to fall prey to this scam and not to be duped by ‘get rich quick’ schemes.

The SAPS advises people to rather visit the branch themselves and enquire about investment plans, rather than depositing money into people’s personal accounts if they suspect any fraudulent dealings.

The three cases are still being investigated.
