New waste truck to “ease current challenges”

The new waste compactor truck will service Estcourt as well as surrounding areas

Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality Mayor Mduduzi Myeza, together with Deputy Mayor Sithabiso Dladla and Community Services Committee chairperson / Exco member Cllr Getty Mnikathi, handed over a new waste compactor truck to the Department of Community Services on Thursday. The department is responsible for waste collection and disposal.

The refuse compactor was procured through the Covid-19 Grant that was approved by National Treasury through the KZN Department of Co-operative Governance & Traditional Affairs (CoGTA). The cost was R2,375,303.15, which was obtained through the municipality’s Supply Chain Management processes.

The truck will help the municipality respond to:

  • The current challenge of waste collection in the CBD, residential and industrial areas, and public establishments such as hospitals.
  • General collection of waste as per the weekly collection schedule.
  • The truck will also assist with the removal of waste skip bins, since it has the ability to lift skips.

The truck will service areas like Weenen, Estcourt, Wembezi, Loskop and Ntabamhlophe.
