Are you KZN’s top young farmer?

Agricultural union, Kwanalu says there are many candidates for the KZN Young Farmer of the Year title.

Entries have recently opened for the Kwanalu (KwaZulu-Natal Agricultural Union) 2022 ‘Young Farmer of the Year’. The union hopes to once again showcase the ‘largely unsung work of KZN farmers’.

Those eligible to enter must be farmers or farming partners – male or female – who are under the age of 40 and who are members of Kwanalu. The winner will represent the province at the 2022 Toyota South Africa/ Agri-SA National Young Farmer of the Year competition.

We encourage all of our young farmers to enter this year; they are the future of this country’s food security and should be honoured,” said CEO of Kwanalu, Sandy La Marque in a press statement.

La Marque added that the competition highlights the ‘great skill and entrepreneurial spirit’ required to be a successful farmer. Kwanalu has no doubt that in KZN, there are large number of potential candidates.

According to the statement, among the criteria to be reviewed (objectively and scientifically) by a provincial and national panel of experts, is technical production, labour philosophy, community involvement and marketing.

To enter the KZN Kwanalu Young Farmer of the Year competition, visit www.kwanalu.co.za or call 033 342 9393. Entries close on August 4.
