Vryheid in the running for rugby league finals

It was a golden opportunity for Coach Jaco Maritz to experiment with different players in different positions

Vryheid Rugby Club travelled to Newcastle (Arbor Park) on Saturday to measure their strength against the Bears from Ladysmith. It was another deft performance by the Vryheid team, who led 28-5 at half-time. They didn’t take their foot off the accelerator in the second half and continued to put points on the board as they romped to victory. The Bears could only score a meagre eight points, with the final score being 59-8 to Vryheid’s conquerors. It was a golden opportunity for Coach Jaco Maritz to experiment with different players in different positions to prepare the team for their upcoming battles in the next three weeks, which will lead up to the final match in the league. This coming weekend (July 9), they will play in the semi-finals on home ground. The try-scorers on Saturday were Zakes Dlamini, Carl Holtzhauzen, Luyanda Ndlangamandla, Chris van Rooyen and Khumba Khoza.
