Sporting fun in the sun for the disabled

It was a competitive yet fun-filled day for the participants, as they enjoyed different sporting codes from table tennis to chess.

Endumeni Municipality hosted local selection games at the Oval sports field on Monday last week for people living with a variety of disabilities.
Those who emerged victorious will represent Endumeni Municipality at district level, and the winners from those selections will represent KwaZulu-Natal at this year’s Provincial Disability Games to be hosted later in the year.
It was a competitive yet fun-filled day for the participants, as they enjoyed different sporting codes from table tennis to chess.
“We are very happy that the municipality hosted this sports day for us.
“I enjoyed seeing my friends, whom I have not seen since the Covid-19 virus hit the country,” said an excited Siyanda Khumalo.
He added that people with special needs are appreciative of initiatives like this from local government, where they can showcase their talent and also be out in the sun.
Siyanda is well known for his ballroom dancing skills and also runs his own dance club in Glencoe.
“Although I am wheelchair-bound, I am still able to swing my wheelchair and dance to ballroom music.
“However, the sports day was different for me and I really enjoyed myself,” concluded Siyanda.
