Power utility, Eskom issued a statement informing South Africans that load-shedding would resume this week, with various stages implemented throughout the week.
This is reportedly due to shortages with generation capacity.
Eskom warns the public that the power generation system will take several weeks to fully recover to pre-strike levels,” read a statement from Eskom.
While the power utility stated that load-shedding would hopefully be gradually reduced to Stage 2 by the weekend, this depends on several factors including the workforce fully returning to work to perform critical repairs.
Eskom also stated that 18 319MW of capacity was unavailable due to breakdowns.
Eskom wants the public to know that load-shedding is only used as a last resort to protect the national grid. As a result, we urge all South Africans to use electricity sparingly, particularly during these uncertain times on the power system.”
The constant changes have proven confusing for many residents. In response to many requests for clarity, the Newcastle Advertiser can provide the following provisional schedule for residents.
Load-shedding will be implemented as follows:
- Monday (July 4):
Stage 4: 05:00 to 16:00
Stage 6: 16:00 to 22:00
Stage 4: 22:00 to 00:00
- Tuesday (July 5):
Stage 2: 00:00 to 05:00
Stage 4: 05:00 to 16:00
Stage 5: 16:00 to 22:00
Stage 4: 22:00 to 00:00.
