Sahil spins his way to the UK

A full documentary reality show of the competition will air on DStv channel 189. The dates will be announced, once available.

Local mechanic and ‘spinner’ Sahil Byroo is all set to represent South Africa, along with four other spinners, after coming second in the SA Spin Talent competition in June.
This first-of-a-kind competition was hosted by local spinner and businessman Preshu Singh, and the first 50 entries got to audition to represent South Africa in the United Kingdom (UK) spin-offs competition.
The event took place at the ZCBF show grounds in Richards Bay in March, with the finale being contested on June 4.
Sahil started ‘spinning’ in cars when he was just 11 years old and has not looked back since.
“I thrive on the adrenaline and being inside a spinning car. The track is definitely my happy place,” he says with a smile.
Sahil read about the competition on social media and decided to enter, not knowing that he would emerge as one of the five winners.
“On the day of the competition, I was very anxious.
“However, after I made it through the first round, I gained confidence and being in the car felt good.
“As I got further in the competition, it got more intense and challenging to conquer the obstacle course,” he explains.
According to Sahil, when the judges called out his name in the finals, he was ecstatic and it only sunk in after the dust had settled that he was going to the UK.
“I am ready for the trip and for the competition. I am ready to go and represent our country.”
Sahil thanks his family for their constant support, and also Preshu for his support and offering the platform to see the world.
Sahil says he wants to visit more countries through spinning, and plans to take on ‘drifting’ and other kinds of motor sport in the future.
Preshu, who was part of the judging panel, says he is proud of the local spinner, as well as the others who will be representing SA.
“I am super proud of them! They have all come a long way and now it’s time to show the world what South African spinning culture is all about!”
He adds that it’s every spinner’s dream to go and compete overseas, as they are the best in the game.
He ends off by thanking the sponsors, AVIP and VP Fuels, for coming on board and helping to realise local spinners’ dreams.
