The level of the Ntshingwayo (Chelmsford) Dam is unchanged this week, at 78.8% of its capacity.
According to the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS), the Umgeni Water Supply System – which provides water to five dams in the province – remains at full capacity (100.3%) for the second week running. At the same time last year, the system was only at 83.2%.
In the latest report by DWS, the department called on residents to continue using water sparingly. It also urged communities to avoid vandalising water infrastructure, and to fix and report water leaks to the local authorities.
[DWS] further supports and continues to work with the provincial government, several organs of the state and organisations, to ensure residents still facing water challenges as a result of the recent floods are provided with alternative water sources,” said the department’s Sputnik Ratau.
KZN dam levels for this week have been reported as follows:
- Albert Falls Dam: down from 99.8% to 99.5%
- Midmar Dam: down from 100% to 99.6%
- Nagle Dam: unchanged at 100.5%
- Driel Barrage: down from 108.4% to 92.8%
- Woodstock Dam: unchanged at 101.1%
- Craigieburn Dam: unchanged at 100.5%
- Spring Grove Dam: unchanged at 78.8%
- Hazelmere Dam: unchanged at 52.9%
- Wagendrift Dam: up from 99.8% to 100.8%
- Goedertrouw Dam: unchanged at 100.2%
- Bivane Dam: unchanged at 100.8%
- Pongolapoort Dam: down from 84% to 83.7%
- Mearns Dam: up from 101.8% to 102.2%
- Spioenkop Dam: unchanged at 100%
- Zaaihoek Dam: unchanged at 90.6%
- Inanda Dam: down from 101.8% to 101.7%
