Alerting young minds to the dangers of crime

It was an interactive session for the learners and stakeholders

Advocating for a crime-free community, members of several organisations visited two schools last week to give a lesson they hoped would be digested and put into practice.

Joining forces, the Youth Organisation United, Estcourt police, the Community Policing Forum (CPF), Afripioneers Organisation and Ingwceti Project met at Riverdale Primary School in Rensburgdrift and Heavy Tree Primary School in Frere on June 14.

The aim was to enlighten young learners about the negative effect that crime has on society, as well as discuss the role and duties of police in fighting crime.

Sergeant Mkhize and Sergeant Dlamini were on hand to deliver the messages.

To add to the day’s activities, the children were given blankets and beanies, which were donated by the Al-Imdaad Foundation.

Nomandla Mbatha from Youth Organisation United said the day was a success and the messages were well-received. “The learners were pleased about the information they received. Then, after receiving the blankets and beanies, you could see the absolute joyfulness written in their eyes, along with their cheerful smiles,” she said.
