Knights to the rescue in winter

You can still donate and help make winter warmer for someone in need

As a commitment to give back to the community, Round Table clubs from across South Africa host an annual campaign called ‘Winter Knights’.

This campaign is driven by clubs in each town and supported by the community, as well as corporate sponsors and non-governmental organisations.

Aiming to provide warmth to disadvantaged communities and residents, the Winter Knights campaign calls on people to donate blankets, warm clothing for all ages, non-perishable food items, as well as cash.

These items are then distributed to needy families and homeless people who are in desperate need of an extra blanket or a hot meal.

Here in town, Round Table Estcourt 74 members have kicked off the campaign by stationing a trolley at Pick n Pay, where donations can be dropped off.

On the June 16 public holiday, members set up camp in the Pick n Pay parking lot to gather donations from shoppers and passers-by.

While collections were slow, the Rotarians were steadfast in their resolve to bag as many items as possible and were stationed at the drop-off point from 09:00 until 13:00.

“Thanks to all who helped with donations and to Pick n Pay Estcourt for their support,” said Justin Sutherland from Round Table Estcourt 74.
