Elder abuse under the spotlight at Shepstone Place

The elderly residents were sensitised to the different types of abuse

Tuesday last week (June 14) was World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

Shepstone Place Home for the Aged welcomed Nonsikelelo Mabele from the Department of Social Development, Uthukela District, who is the co-ordinator for older persons.

Her main aim was to spread the message to stop elder abuse in residential facilities, communities and families.

Topics that were discussed included the various types of abuse, the right to report elder abuse, and the role of staff in protecting elderly people from abuse in residential facilities.

To spoil the residents, a variety of soups and bread were prepared to keep them warm and cosy during the talk.

Shepstone Place thanks Nonsikelelo Mabele and the wonderful staff for the love and care that was shown during the event.
