SASSA warns of scam

Beneficiaries are urged to report these fraudsters to their nearest police station

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) warns people that a scam is doing the rounds and you could be conned out of your grant money if you’re not careful.

SASSA has issued a statement saying that social grant beneficiaries are being deceived to change their SASSA card for an unknown bank card.

The scammers claim to work for SASSA and advise clients to open an account with a certain bank. They do this by instilling fear that the gold SASSA card will not have money by the end of June.

SASSA would like to assure all social grant beneficiaries that the card will continue to work until they officially communicate otherwise. Beneficiaries can use their SASSA gold card to withdraw their grant at retail outlets.

If there are any changes to the grant payment, SASSA will inform beneficiaries through all available channels and also through stakeholder engagements.
