Rural youth helped with their education

The aim of the visit was to provide tertiary education guidelines to the youth of the area. as well as fight poverty, unemployment, gender-based violence, crime, teenage pregnancy and lack of information.

The Zakhele Foundation team of Zakhele Xulu, Menzi Zulu, Snakho Mbatha and Siboniso Nsusha, accompanied by Hlobane SAPS, paid a visit to the Mgobhozi area (Ward 5).

Xulu introduced everyone before thanking Hlobane SAPS management (Colonel Mncwango, Captain Ntshangase and Warrant Officer Mnisi) for their help in transporting the foundation members to this rural area. The aim of the visit was to provide tertiary education guidelines to the youth of the area. as well as fight poverty, unemployment, gender-based violence, crime, teenage pregnancy and lack of information.

Xulu highlighted the importance of education as a tool to combat the surge of gender-based violence in the country. “Education is the key to improving your well-being, improving the community as a whole, improving your standard of living, etc.’’ He also announced that the Zakhele Foundation has been nominated in the 2022 South African Heroes Awards under the Rural Development Awards category.

Siboniso Nsusha, who is a Tshwane University graduate, explained the importance of having your own email address as an individual, outlining the advantages, benefits and services provided by an email account. Snakho Mbatha then emphasised the importance of TVET colleges and highlighted the difference between NCV and NATED courses. He also underlined the role of the agricultural sector in the country’s economy, saying it is the key driver of economic growth. ‘’The Mgobhozi area has running water from rainfall that can be used positively towards farming and agriculture,’’ he said.

Menzi Zulu further outlined the importance of TVET colleges, since he is from Mthashana TVET College. He explained that, from Grade 9, learners can enroll in any TVET college and he / she can be funded by NSFAS until he / she completes his / her studies. “TVET colleges are not for failed learners, but also for learners who passed with flying colours. Anyone can enroll in any TVET college,” he said adamantly.

Event organiser Nomvula Xulu thanked the Zakhele Foundation and Hlobane SAPS for making it possible to reach the youth of Mgobhozi. She is currently working as a security guard at Mgobhozi Primary School and wants the youth to be able to fulfil their dreams through education.

The Zakhele Foundation works closely with community policing and thanked Mrs DAO Mthethwa for allowing the foundation members to use the school premises. Lastly, he thanked the young people for their attendance.
