Recovered skeletal remains still a mystery

Investigations to identify the deceased have not produced results

A number of attempts to identify the skeletal remains that were recovered earlier this year have been fruitless.

The bones were found in the river bed at Princess Park on February 23.

“Detectives have checked police records of missing persons but all reported cases have been finalised. They went further to check the records from neighbouring police stations but have come to a dead end,” said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan.

Police are now turning to the community to assist in identifying the deceased.

“We are appealing to the community to come forward with any information that could assist in locating the next of kin of the deceased, so that further forensic investigation can be done to positively identify the deceased,” added Khan.

Anyone with information can contact Sergeant Ntuli of the Estcourt Detective Services on 036 342 9517 or on 082 346 7155. Alternatively callers may use the toll free 10111 number.
