KZN dam levels take a ‘minor drop’ –

Mirroring many other dams in the province, the level of the Ntshingwayo (Chelmsford) Dam dropped marginally this week from 79.7% to 79.6% of its capacity.

According to the latest report from the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) in KwaZulu-Natal, dam levels saw a minimal decrease from 91.4% to 91.1% this week. DWS has reiterated its plea to residents to use water sparingly, as work continues to restore water to areas of the province affected by recent flooding.

The department pleads with community members to refrain from vandalising water infrastructure, as this has adverse impact on reliable water supply. Residents are called upon to report acts of vandalism to their local authorities,” said DWS spokesperson, Sputnik Ratau.

According to DWS, Hazelmere Dam declined from 53.6% to 53.1%, Driel Barrage Dam on the Tugela River is unchanged at 86.6%, and Hluhluwe Dam is down from 83.3% to 82.9%. Albert Falls Dam is at full capacity (100.2%) despite declining from last week’s 100.7%, Inanda Dam is down from 102.6% to 101.8%, Nagle Dam is at 100.9%, and Midmar Dam is at 100.1%.

Other dam figures are as follows:

Wagendrift Dam – down from 101.7% to 100.2%

Goedetrouw Dam – unchanged at 100.2%

Bivane Dam – down from 100.9% to 100.8%

Pongolapoort Dam – down from 79.7% to 79.6%

Mearns Dam – down from 105.7% to 103.5%

Spioenkop Dam – down from 100.3% to 100.2%

Woodstock Dam – unchanged at 101.7%.
