Lions Club aims to ease the winter blues –

In an effort to make winter a little less harsh for those in need, the Newcastle Lions Club is turning up the heat with its annual Warmer Winter Project.

Members of the local Lions are encouraging Newcastle residents to donate any unwanted winter items towards those in need. Donations can include warm clothing, jerseys, jackets, winter pyjamas, closed shoes and blankets.

These items can be dropped off in the collection trolleys placed at Pick n Pay Hutten Heights and Pick n Pay Family Pioneer Park.

Recently, Arbor Park Primary School donated a bakkie-load of items to the project. Zarina Luck from the Newcastle Lions Club, thanked the school for its generosity and support of Warmer Winter each year.

Lions members have asked Newcastle residents to imagine facing winter without clothing, blankets and other items often taken for granted. Many children are forced to walk to school in clothing which offers very little protection from the elements.
