Extension granted for power amnesty
After the amnesty period, the municipality will be forced to implement load reduction from 19:00 to 22:00 and from 05:00 to 09:00, depending on the amnesty outcomes.
A recently-held special council meeting resolved that there should be an extension of the amnesty period regarding electricity meters that have been tampered with.
The new extension is from June 6 to September 6 (three months).
Endumeni Municipality will embark on disconnecting non-paying customers, meters that have been tampered with, bypassed meters, and illegal connections. A penalty of R1200 is payable for tampering.
The extended amnesty period applies to all households with ‘tampered meters’, so households are encouraged to go to Room 108 at Endumeni Municipality to fill out an admission-of-guilt form and pay the R1200 at the cashiers’ office so that a new meter can be installed. The admission-of-guilt period is open until the end of June.
