St Dominics Nursery Phase commits to a worthy cause –

The St Dominics Newcastle Nursery School staff and learners have a special connection with the babies and toddlers of Home Meah, which goes beyond the common age factor.

Home Meah, a place for abandoned and neglected toddlers and babies in Newcastle, is always in need of basic toiletries and clothing for the children in its care. The Nursery School phase, headed by Bianca Moses, has begun working on a special Youth Day outreach project to assist Home Meah, especially during the colder winter months.

We have started collecting items to donate to Home Meah. Caring for this age group [new-born to 6 years old] is so vital, as it’s such an important time in a child’s life,” explained Moses. “The first 1 000 days of a child’s life are so important, because up to the age of six, children have their ‘foundation’ in terms of development.”

She added that if a child’s brain and body develop well, their life chances are greatly improved. According to Moses, exposure to stresses or adversity during this period can result in a child’s development falling behind their peers.

It is important for us to ensure that all children have the basic items needed to develop properly.”

How you can help

The Nursery School is collecting the following items, which can be dropped off at the St Dominics Newcastle Nursery School gate or admin office by June 15:

  • Toiletries
  • Nappies
  • Clothing
  • Blankets
  • Food items
  • Toys

We will be dropping off these items at Home Meah during the week of 20 June.”

She is urging the Newcastle community to get involved and help make a difference in the life of an innocent child.

For more information or to find out how you can support this worthy cause, contact the school’s marketer by sending a WhatsApp to 072 714 4709.

Do not disregard the smallest of contributions… It all adds up and as a community, if everyone gives a tiny bit, we will be able to make a big difference!” concluded Moses.
