Electricity pole theft on the rise in Ezakheni

Power cables are left lying on the ground after the poles are stolen, posing a danger to residents

Ezakheni C-Section residents are concerned about a trend that seems to be escalating in the area, whereby the wooden poles that support electricity cables are being cut down and stolen.

Today (May 30), more poles were stolen in C-Section (Ward 3).

Representatives from the National People’s Ambassadors (NPA) were the first to go out and condemn this behaviour. NPA president Nathi Mthethwa said, “We would like to get a report from the police about the matter. If nothing is being done about it, we will be forced to take matters into our own hands,” he said.

Ward Councillor Nokwazi Dlamini said they are very worried about the situation, especially because the country’s power utility (Eskom) is already having problems. If ‘electricity pole theft’ is added to the problems already being experienced, this will affect communities even more.

“I urge Ward 3 residents to report incidents of this nature so that the perpetrators can be brought to book. I am also appealing to the police to work with us in the fight against crime within the ward,” said Cllr Dlamini.
