Vryheid lass wins Miss Bachelorette crown

Mbali explained that her mom is the one who gave her affirmation

Mbali Mbanjwa, who grew up in Vryheid, has made a name for herself in the modelling industry by winning Miss Bachelorette 2022. Miss Bachelorette is a pageant that caters for women between the age of 25 and 50, hence a pageant for moms, single mothers, divorcees and unmarried women. Mbali says it is not a typical pageant, as weight and height is not considered.

Mbali initially made the top 50 before being selected in the top 16. Her crowning glory came on April 23 when she was announced as the winner of Miss Bachelorette 2022 at the Lyric Theatre in Gold Reef City. There was a special performance by Ringo Madlingozi that night.

Mbali explains that her charity work will focus on gender-based violence (GBV) and femicide. ”I want to encourage women to find themselves first, as self-love and identity is important.” She urges women to value themselves and never settle for less than best. She acknowledges that it is often not easy for women to leave their relationships, but that any woman who is in an abusive situation should find the courage to speak up and leave. ”It’s time for women to put themselves first in everything; no one was born to suffer,” she says adamantly.

Mbali mentions that she went through the competition with a positive attitude. ‘’I entered the pageant with the mind-set that I have already won. The journey has made me grow so much as an individual. For me, entering Miss Bachelorette has given me so much confidence. Pageants help one exercise one’s character.’’

Mbali will also be doing online presentations where she will be talking about various issues concerning women, such as life after a divorce, heartbreak and the life of dating. ‘’Women should know that it is possible to find a healthy relationship, though it is very tricky these days. I also want to remind women that marriage is not an achievement; some will get married and some will not.’’

In one of her interviews, Mbali explained that her mom is the one who gave her affirmation and it is her mother who instilled positivity and told her to take pride in herself, as well as teaching her how to act and be a lady. Mbali attended Lakeside Primary School before going on to Vryheid High School, where she fell in love with modelling. She was Miss Mayfair Junior in 2004.

She thanks everyone who voted for her and helped her win Miss Bachelorette. ‘’From the bottom of my heart, I would like to thank everyone from my town of Vryheid, I am representing my town and my province.’’ She also encourages other women to enter Miss Bachelorette in order to attain more self-empowerment, confidence and time management skills.
