Mall management responds to armed robbery –

Management of the Newcastle Mall has confirmed that five armed men targeted an electronics store on Tuesday (May 24). The armed robbers made off with an undisclosed amount of cell phones and other merchandise.

Marketing Manager for the mall, Beulah Rajkumar stated mall security was close by when they realised a robbery was in progress. They called for back-up immediately, ensuring the mall’s armed response and Newcastle SAPS were on the scene within minutes.

We continue to work closely with SAPS to apprehend the perpetrators and we would like to thank Newcastle SAPS and the Newcastle security community for their continued support.”

Rajkumar added that the safety and security of customers and tenants was the mall’s top priority. The mall, she explained, was ‘constantly looking for ways to update security measures where relevant and necessary’, in collaboration with centre security.

She concluded by saying the mall’s security team remained vigilant at all times.

Should anyone notice any suspicious behaviour or wish to report suspicious behaviour on the mall premises, they can contact our 24-hour control room on 034 326 1120 for an immediate response.”
