Nofta honours mothers with dinner function –

Despite a brief power outage due to load-shedding, the Newcastle Organisation for the Aged (Nofta) Mother’s Day ‘dinner and dance’ went otherwise smoothly.

The focus was firmly placed on the organisation’s mothers, including the crowning of the ‘Queen Mother’ and two princesses. Every mother in attendance received three special gifts, which were generously donated by community members.

Nofta also kept guests entertained with singers, dancers and keynote speeches. Speakers included founding member, SM Singh and representatives from the Department of Social Development.

The oldest mothers in attendance were Aunty Barbie (Persman Ramsaroop) at 90 years old, and 95-year-old Mrs Ramdas. The Nofta veterans sang for the audience and concluded with some cheeky words of wisdom.
