Mayor launches project to electrify homes in Forestdale

The cost of the electrification project is an estimated R4.6 million.

A total of 217 houses in Forestdale (Ward 6) will for the first time have electricity in their homes.
Residents in this area have for years been relying on gas stoves and gas heaters to get by. However, Forestdale homes, including the newly-built houses, will soon have electricity. Endumeni Mayor Siyabonga Ndlovu, alongside Speaker Andile Nsibande and Ward 6 Cllr Shelembe, recently announced that Capital Power Project is the contractor that has been awarded the electrification tender. The project will be overseen by BTMW Engineers. “The cost of the electrification project is an estimated R4.6 million. Job opportunities for locals will be created,” said Mayor Ndlovu.
A Forestdale resident who would like to remain anonymous stated that she is elated to see the project officially off the ground. “We are very happy about this new project and anxious at the same time. “We can only hope that the appointed contractor
won’t run away after he has been paid, as that seems to be the trend now and no one accounts for such occurrences.”
