Seasoned detective puts serial rapist behind bars

A serial rapist that was terrorising the Loskop community has been sentenced to life imprisonment

Warrant Officer Lucky Magubane was recently successful in putting a serial rapist behind bars. As a seasoned detective attached to the Family Violence, Child Protection & Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit in Estcourt, Magubane’s investigations led to a single suspect in several cases he was tasked to investigate.

2015

During the latter part of 2015, two females aged 16 and 20 were at a residence in the Tatane area of Amangwe (Loskop). The door was suddenly forced open and two unknown men entered the premises.

The men assaulted and raped both females before fleeing the scene. The incident was reported to police and investigations began.

2016

In November 2016, three women from the same area also became victims of rape. They woke up to find two men in the room they were sleeping in. All three were brutally raped.

2018

In July 2018, a similar incident took place in the Mqendaba area of Amangwe. The two victims were both in their teens and were robbed of their property.

In all three incidents, the victims were unable to identify the perpetrators. However, thorough investigation led to the arrest of a suspect.

The cases were enrolled at the Estcourt Regional Court and after several remands the case was finalised recently.

Guilty

Mbukeleleli Simon Dice Khumalo (32) was sentenced to three terms of life imprisonment and an additional five years on one count of attempted rape, as well as five years on a count of housebreaking.
