Flood victims receive assistance

Two families per ward, identified by the respective ward councillors as severely affected by the floods, received aid in the form of food and clothing.

In response to the recent floods that ‘wrecked’ Dannhauser and left families in distress, various stakeholders and the community of Dannhauser rallied together to provide the destitute with much-needed relief. On behalf of council, Mayor SEC Kunene and some councillors last week handed over donations which were facilitated by the Disaster Management Unit and Finance Department.
Two families per ward, identified by the respective ward councillors as severely affected by the floods, received aid in the form of food and clothing. In total, 26 families benefited. Responding to the plight, stakeholders Munsoft and Stedon Civils extended a hand by donating groceries and food vouchers while the community of Dannhauser donated clothing. The mayor extended his sincerest gratitude to these Good Samaritans for providing invaluable assistance to the affected families. “The reality of the flooding and the extensive damage was severe, but seeing this spirit of humanity, as well as the obligation by our partners and the community to serve the needy, brings great comfort. This unity shows that we are a community that cares for each other,” he said.
He then extended a call to all social partners to join in the efforts to assist affected families, as he anticipates a rise in numbers since the assessments are still underway.
“We plead for any donations of non-perishable food and clothing from anyone wishing to lend a hand. We have a drop-box available at the municipality’s reception area for those wishing to extend a helping hand,” added the mayor.
