Water update: uThukela talk about the pumps

"The service provider that is on site managed to start up two pumps"

uThukela District Municipality says that due to the recent flooding, the Ezakheni raw water abstraction pump station was affected in such a way that out of the six pumps that were pumping water to the purification plant, only one ‘survived’.

“We are facing the challenge of supplying water to the community, but as of yesterday (May 5), the service provider that is on site managed to start up two pumps which are only able to supply about 25% of the normal supply,” said uThukela communications manager Jabulani Mkhonza.

“We also managed to source or hire three pumps, of which one is busy installing now. We hope to increase our supply by another 15% when we are done with this third one,” added Mkhonza.
