Department conducts Men’s Health Awareness in Hlobane

‘’Different schools came to take part and we want to emphasise the importance of circumcision among males, as it helps to keep them safe from diseases and sicknesses such as STIs and cancer."

Working together with the Department of Health, a non-governmental organisation called Jhpiego conducted an awareness campaign in Hlobane on Wednesday last week. The initiative focused on men’s health. With this topic in mind, a soccer tournament for school boys and men in the area was organised. Khanyisa, who is an assistant director at GSIC (Government Communication & Information System), commented that, ‘’The government conducts events like this for boys and men so they can be assisted. They hold tournaments and the officials go to the grounds and make the participants aware of their health in terms of circumcision and condoms. Hlobane is quite far from the town or hospital, so that is why we decided to go to the people and help them where they are.’’

Ntombifuthi Sibiya from Jhpiego in the Zululand District said, ‘’Different schools came to take part and we want to emphasise the importance of circumcision among males, as it helps to keep them safe from diseases and sicknesses such as STIs and cancer. We brought all this information for the males in the community and schools.’’ She also shared flood disaster safety tips in the wake of the recent flooding in KZN.
