Local athletes take on the Assegai marathon

The long-anticipated TWK Assegai 3-in-1 Marathon took place and Vryheid Athletic Club athletes shone at this event

This past weekend, the long-anticipated TWK Assegai 3-in-1 Marathon took place and Vryheid Athletic Club athletes shone at this event!
It was a tough race, but the athletes had excellent support and water tables along the way to cheer them on.
The results are as follows:
42km
Robert Msimango – 02:41:32 (third place)
Melissa Scheepers – 03:46:31 (third place and first in her age category)
Kobus van der Merwe – 04:19:40
Richard Scheepers – 04:30:51
21km
Mandla Mnisi – 01:38:34
Casper Louw – 01:46:26
Yvette Barsdorf – 02:31:00
Cathy de Beer – 02:33:50 (first in her age category)
Bongani Ndlovu – 01:21:28
Two of Vryheid Athletic Club’s out-of-town athletes also competed in the Two Oceans recently.
Hlobi Madida ran the 56km ultra-marathon in a time of 05:50:34.
Marieza Vorster took part in the 21km half-marathon and completed the race with a time of 02:45:06.
Mandla Mnisi also competed in the Durban City Marathon and completed it in 3:42:00.
“Congratulations to all of you, and also to those who qualified to compete in the Comrades Marathon! We are so proud of you,” said representatives of Vryheid Athletic Club.
