Baby and driver in critical condition after collision –

Two people – including an eight-month-old baby – have been seriously injured after their vehicle collided with a tree on Albert Wessels Drive earlier this evening (April 30). The three other occupants of the vehicle were said to have sustained moderate injuries.

According to witness accounts, the vehicle was travelling towards town when it collided with the tree.

We saw the vehicle flying down the road. I just screamed to my sisters to hold on tight, because we thought ‘tonight we are dying’,” said a distraught witness. “All of a sudden, we saw him hit into the tree and saw pieces of his vehicle flying all over. Thank God we did not die.”

Paramedics responded to the scene within minutes and began administering aid to the collision victims. The eight-month-old, as well as the driver, were treated at the scene and have been rushed to hospital for further care.

The remaining three occupants were treated for moderate to moderately serious injuries.

All emergency personnel are currently at the scene conducting preliminary investigations, so as to determine the exact cause of the collision.
