Two people injured in Allen Street collision –

A collision on Allen Street earlier this morning (April 28) resulted in the injury of two people. Both vehicles were travelling along the same section of road when they collided, according to eyewitnesses at the scene.

It is believed the bakkie was turning in at the show grounds when she was struck from behind by the other vehicle,” said an official source.

Local Fire Services officials were called out to help free the driver of the bakkie using the Jaws of Life. The bakkie driver is believed to have sustained spinal injuries, while the other driver is said to have broken her wrist.

Both drivers were treated at the scene, before being transported to hospital for further medical treatment.

All emergency services were at the scene to conduct preliminary investigations into what exactly had caused the collision.

Resident, Andrew van den Berg, who was at the scene, said local emergency services were to be commended for their speedy response. He claimed officials arrived to help within minutes.

I must say, Newcastle probably has the best first responders and I would personally like to thank them for their commitment, as well as their friendly and professional service,” he commented.
