Madadeni residents march against crime –

A march in protest of drugs and crime was held in Madadeni last week (April 22). Organiser, Landiwe Mahlaba stated that residents are ‘sick and tired’ of drug abuse and criminality occurring in the area.

She said that copper pipes, steel and metal (from gates) were frequently being stolen and sold to scrapyards for cash. Mahlaba claimed thieves were then using this cash to purchase drugs.

As a result of the situation, she added that many houses were being robbed and the occupants attacked.

You will wake up in the morning and your gate will no longer be there,” stated Sizwe Mngomezulu, the Ward 22 Councillor.

Mahlaba explained that Friday’s march was meant to raise awareness and plead with the community to help stamp out crime.
