Many left without shelter after disaster in Bergville

Over 300 houses have been destroyed by the heavy rainfall

The heavy rainfall over the past week has left many people without shelter in the Bergville area.

The most affected areas are Woodford (Ward 12) and Bhethani (Ward 15).

Most of the structures that were destroyed were mud houses, leaving people without roofs over their heads.

Cllr Khoza of Ward 15 said this is the first time they have ever experienced a disaster of this magnitude. “Over 300 houses have been destroyed by this rainfall. What pains me most is that people were left without any shelter. Some have built shacks which are not safe at all.”

He added that help is requested from business people, charity organisations and churches, etc.
